Press release: AMD SHOWCASES HIGH-POWERED WORKSTATIONS AT SOLIDWORKS WORLD 2001
Date : 2001-02-12
ORLANDO, FL-FEBRUARY 12, 2001 - At the third annual SolidWorks World 2001 Conference, AMD announced today that it is demonstrating 30 workstations at 1GHz and faster powered by the AMD Athlon(tm) processor. SolidWorks World 2001, which runs February 11-14, 2001, brings together designers, engineers, managers, and partners to
discuss ideas, trends and the technology shaping the future of mechanical design. As one of four overall SolidWorks Solution partners, AMD works closely to promote reliability and compatibility with AMD Athlon processor-based platforms and the optimization and tuning of SolidWorks software for better performance and stability.
"SolidWorks, in combination with the AMD Athlon processor, offers professionals an excellent CAD solution," said Antony Hervo, Hardware
Partner manager for SolidWorks Corporation. "The power and ease of use of SolidWorks software combined with the performance of the AMD Athlon processor help engineers and designers bring better quality products to market faster. In addition, the close relationship between SolidWorks and AMD ensures a high level of compatibility and reliability."
"AMD is strategically working closely with SolidWorks to assure users have a compatible, stable, high performance environment with which to do their CAD/CAM design work," says Ned Finkle, director of AMD's
Infrastructure Enablement Group. We're confident that SolidWorks users will benefit from high-speed architectures like the AMD Athlon processor with support for DDR memory."
SolidWorks International User Conference
AMD is also sponsoring the opening night reception from 6 pm to 9 pm Sunday, February 11, 2001, with food, entertainment and giveaways.
Visit the AMD booth (#603-605) to see SolidWorks system demos including the MaxVision MaxPac6000 portable workstation, the award winning Micronpc.com Millennia desktop, the U-tron CyberGraph.AL5 workstation and the Xi 1200 Mtower DDR workstation; all powered by the award winning 1.2GHz AMD Athlon processor. AMD will be giving away the Xi 1200 Mtower DDR workstation during the show. Also, AMD will be giving away one Rio digital audio MP3 music player per day provided by FGL Graphics, a division of SONICblue, Inc. On
Tuesday, AMD will be sponsoring a breakout session that will feature the "Who Wants To Be A Smarty Pants" game show from 11am until noon.
About the AMD Athlon(tm) Processor
The AMD Athlon processor is an x86-compatible, seventh-generation design featuring a superpipelined, nine-issue superscalar
microarchitecture optimized for high clock frequency; the industry\'s first fully pipelined, superscalar floating point unit for x86 platforms; high-performance cache architecture, now featuring 384KB of total on-chip cache (256KB of on-chip level (L2) cache and 128KB of on-chip level (L1) cache); enhanced 3DNow!(tm) technology with 24 additional instructions designed to improve integer math calculations, data movement for Internet streaming, and DSP communications. The AMD Athlon processor features either a 266MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) or a 200MHz FSB based on the Alpha(tm) EV6 bus
protocol. AMD Athlon processors are manufactured using AMD's aluminum 0.18-micron process technology in Fab 25 in Austin, Texas and AMD's copper 0.18 micron technology in Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
AMD is a global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and
networked computer and communications markets with manufacturing
facilities in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Asia. AMD produces microprocessors, flash memory devices, and support circuitry for communications and networking applications. Founded in 1969 and based in Sunnyvale, California, AMD had revenues of $4.6 billion in 2000. (NYSE: AMD).
